Short answer
A VPS (virtual private server) is a server of your own inside a larger physical server. It has guaranteed CPU, RAM and storage, its own IP address and full root access, so you can install any software. Hostnali VPS plans start at R 492 a month.
With shared hosting, many websites share one server’s resources. A VPS splits a powerful server into separate virtual machines, and each one behaves like its own server.
What you get with a VPS
- Guaranteed resources: CPU cores, RAM and storage that other customers can’t use.
- Root access: install any software, any version, and configure the server how you want.
- Your own IP address.
- A choice of operating systems: popular Linux distributions, or Windows Server as an add-on.
Who needs a VPS?
- Developers running apps, APIs, bots or databases.
- Busy websites that outgrow shared hosting.
- Businesses running software such as ERP systems, n8n automations, Docker or a VPN.
- Traders who need MT4 or MT5 running 24/7 on a Windows VPS.
Self-managed or managed?
A VPS is self-managed by default: you look after the operating system, updates and security. If you’d rather we did, add our managed service at checkout, or see managed VPS. Backups aren’t included by default on a VPS; add them at checkout.
What it costs
VPS plans start at R 492 a month for an African VPS, and R 222 a month for a global VPS. The setup fee is waived on yearly plans. See all VPS hosting plans.
